Established in June 2004 as the OpenIB Alliance, the organization was originally funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. The name was changed to the OpenFabrics Alliance in March 2006 after the Alliance expanded its charter to include support for iWARP. Today, more than 30 corporations and organizations fund the Alliance’s work and participate in the development of the OpenFabrics software stack.
